Halloween is just around the corner. A great way to decorate is by adding a wreath to the front door. I like the mesh wreath the best because you can make a huge impact with one. A mesh wreath looks complicated to make but actually is pretty easy. If you do not like it you can easily take it out and start again.
Here are the supplies you will need:
- 21” roll of mesh
- 5.5″ roll of mesh
- Pack of pipe cleaners to match
- 15” metal wreath
- Pipe mesh
- Sign (optional)
- Wire ribbon (optional)
Just about any craft store carries mesh. Make sure you use your coupon if it’s not on sale. Once you get all of your supplies, you are ready to start. You can cut the pipe cleaner in half so it won’t be so long. First, take the pipe cleaners and tie the start of the 21” mesh onto the wreath. You only need to twist the pipe cleaner about once or twice.
Next, roll out about 12” of the mesh roll and gather it in your hand. Attach it to the wreath with another pipe cleaner close to your first one. Do this all the way around the metal wreath.
I alternate my mesh and pipe cleaners by attaching them to the inside, outside, inside and sometimes the middle. I attach about 2-3 pipe cleaners per section. When you are going around the wreath, use what works for you. You will use about the whole roll.
After you get back to the first pipe cleaner you used, cut and tie off the end of the mesh next to it. Spread and move your mesh around until you like the effect it gives.
For the 5.5 mesh, cut 5 pieces or as many as desired, about 12” long. Grab a piece of mesh in the middle and attach it to one of the pipe cleaners already attached. Twist it 1-2 times. Space the other strips out around the mesh. I wanted some more color so I took some green wire ribbon I already had and did the same thing. For the pipe mesh, you can weave it through the wreath as many times as you want. Just be sure to not pull it too tight.
To attach the sign, tie a pipe cleaner to the top or sides, whatever work best for your sign. Attach it to your wreath. Do not pull it too tight or it may crush your mesh. It will look flat if you do.
I hang my mesh wreath by attaching a pipe cleaner and making a loop. Now, hang your beautiful creation up and enjoy your new door! Use a different color of mesh to decorate for any season or holiday by using this tutorial.
